Lord Krishna ! Whats up ?

We all  read about Whats-app in the recent news. It reminded me of a story from Indian Mythology .
Here is the story....
Satyabhama, one of the eight wives of Lord Sri Krishna, performs a ritual to possess Lord Sri Krishna all to herself.
The ritual ends by donating Lord Krishna to a sage named 'Narad' in the name of charity and reclaiming him back with anything that equals his weight measured with a simple balance.

When Lord Sri Krishna was weighed, Satyabhama failed to equal his weight in Gold, Money and All other Material Possessions.

In an last attempt to salvage, she pleads Rukmini, another wife of lord Sri Krishna to give something that can weigh or rather outweigh Lord Sri Krisha .

Rukmini , Lord Sri Krishna's wife and his devotee, places a “Tulasi twig (Basil Twig) embedded with all her devotion” in the other pan of the balance.

This small Tulasi Twig embedded with devotion outweighs Lord Krishna.

This miracle ( Leela) by lord Sri Krishna is a demonstration that Devotion outweighs all Material possessions.

No doubt, this story from Hindu Mythology has similarity to the present marketing world.
We often see Million dollar marketing programmes by corporate Giants evaporate and the one solution with rich insight and intent to serve the customer is the winner.
Does it Ring any bells ?
Whatsapp and Google hangouts!!

For a better narration of the same Mythological story. take a look at this blog post from

The Problem itself as a Solution : Six examples

Problems are everywhere. Problems are opportunities. The more, the merrier.
Because , we all make money on problems. Every single business in the world thrives by offering a solution to a problem. However, we are yet to recognize that many times, the problem itself is the solution.
Here I furnish six Innovative solutions by experts using the problem itself as a solution.

Vaccines:  Use the Pathogen itself  as a Medicine
A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism, and is often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe, its toxins or one of its surface proteins.

Traffic Jams: Avert bigger traffic jams by creating Smaller Traffic jams.
Yes. Indeed. Haven’t you thought that systematically small traffic jams are created at every Red light to ensure you avoid bigger traffic jams? We all know the chaos when traffic signals fail. Mumbaikers, the citizens of Mumbai Know its Value. That’s why you find they rarely jump the signals.  Want to know more science behind this, read the brilliant book titled “Numbers Rule Your World: The Hidden Influence of Probabilities” by Kaiser Fung.

Population Control: Control Population by increasing the life expectancy at Birth (reducing child mortality)
Research shows when child death rates are high, families tend to have more children in anticipation of child mortality. we may not agree Immediately due to a lack of understanding of numbers. Take a look at the Video by Prof Hans Rosling.  He says …Child survival will help in stopping population growth, will help the family also having fewer pregnancies.

Homoeopathy :  Similia Similibus Curanter (Latin)
or in plain English,  “that which can cause can cure”. In a layman’s language, a substance that causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people will cure similar symptoms in sick people. This is the fundamental principle of Homeopathy.

Mosquitoes: Control Population of Mosquitoes by breeding more mosquitoes
Yes. Oxytec, a company of Mr Haden Parry has a solution to control the mosquito menace. The solution is to breed a special male mosquito that can regulate female mosquito fertility. All you need to do is breed them and leave them to the environment. The concept lies in using two biological features. One is that male mosquitoes do not bite and so, it can not cause disease and the other one is a law of nature! The male will always find females to mate with!

Cybersecurity: “Hacktivists” as cybersecurity professionals or Anti Hacker hackers!
Today the world uses hackers to combat cybercrime. We now have Ethical Hacking as a respectable profession!

We were never taught to look for the solution in the problem itself. So, we need to unlearn and relearn.
This unlearning and relearning can creatively change our approach to the problem and possibly bring in innovative solutions.

Though it is a cliché, I dare to quote “Even Impossible and I ‘ m possible”.
Does it ring a bell?

Data Calisthenics : Gapminder Motion Chart - 5 ways to create these Motion Chart with your own data

Sometime back I wrote blog post on Gapminder.
It’s one of the most viewed posts. Here is the link for the same:
Having used and worked with the motion chart, I found that many are fascinated by the insights a Motion Chart (Gapminder) throws out.
Boring stats Can be transformed into brilliant data dancing!
As I explore the Web world, I find many have tried various methods of presenting data the Gapminder way
Here I list out the possibilities I have come across.
It's a compilation of various methods of creating Motion Charts.
Each one is a masterpiece.. and efforts are worth a zillion claps....
The First: Use Google Docs
The easiest way to make data dance.....
Google Docs: MotionChart  : a Chart type in Google Docs
Another link to explore is Quick Guide to Motion Chart
Here below is an example created by me with the Population and GDP of BRIC TM over a period of time.
The Second: Use Excel
            Making it possible in excel
Jon Peltier, author of the famous site http://peltiertech.com writes a post on how you can create motion charts in excel. Here is the link to his post
Jorge Camoes in his famous blog excelcharts. Here is his post
Anand from his brilliant blog http://www.s-anand.net/blog/
Here is the link to his post
The Third: Use Tableau
Andy Cotgreave in his Awesome Blog  Thedatastudio created a Motion chart with all possible paraphernalia on Tableau
here below are the links to his posts

The Fourth: Use Crystal Xcelsius
             http://www.ideas2evidence.com/showcase.html
             http://www.ideas2evidence.com/demos/CO2-demo.html

The Fifth : Use TrendCompass from Epic systems
Trend compass is commercial software from Epic systems.
Trend compass uses the basic idea of showing five variables in a single graph
(X,Y,Bubble size, Bubble Color and Time) as a motion chart.
The user interphase is quite intuitive and simple to create Visualizations. However, for first time user, arranging data may be a challenge. The simple solution is to follow Trend Compass's instructions and their model of Excel to arrange data.
Trend Compass helps you present your business data from your own desktop without the hassle of connecting to the internet and hopping between presentation and web.
Here is a demo of Trendcompass from the website http://www.epicsyst.com/test/v2/mastercard_vs_visa/
You can download a demo version that works for 30 days....

For those who want to start from the basics, you can watch the video below from Steve

Last but not least...

You can download Gapminder for desktop
Yet another great site for data is OECD- Factbook
Though You can not use these with your own data, You have enough and more to explore..
Now...Play.....

Yahoo..... Happy news to share with you all...I am in Cloud 9 !!!
